We Review the Latest Episode of Hawaii Five-0 SN07 EP05 – ‘The Stand’
After last week’s gripping episode, which ended with chess piece killer Madison Grey (Elizabeth Röhm) still at large, it was a little disappointing to see that behavioural specialist Alicia Brown (Claire Forlani) didn’t stick around to help out the team, especially with all that chemistry between her and Steve McGarrett (Alex O’Loughlin). Check out our review of last week’s episode here.
This episode finally saw Kono (Grace Park) and Adam (Ian Anthony Dale) reunited, as Adam is released from prison. Now the two are together again it begs the question will their relationship last? This couple have been put through a lot, their relationship constantly tested, so I’m sure we can expect things to go wrong once again. Their relationship has survived prison, the Yakuza and Gabriel Waincroft (Christopher Sean), what will the show throw at them next? I do think that their relationship will last, however, every time Adam makes an appearance I fear they are going to kill him off as he seems to be one of the more expendable characters (hope they don’t). There is also mention of a baby in the couple’s future, so maybe the couple will finally get a happy ending.
Meanwhile, this week the 5-0 are on the case when a cache of guns are stolen after an armoured vehicle crashes into a gun range. They eventually find the thief – Marvin Oshweller (Brent Sexton), who aims to make a statement about gun violence, following a tragic incident where his son was the perpetrator in a shooting that killed 8 people. I will always applaud a show for being brave enough to deal with a big, powerful, controversial topic. It’s hard not to be biased when dealing with emotional issues, but I think they handled the story well. Both Steve and Danny (Scott Caan) expressing their different, opposing views on citizens access to guns.
Things escalate when it turns into a hostage situation. Kono and Grover (Chi McBride) are forced to go in as part of a news crew to ensure the safety of the hostages, while Danny builds rapport and understanding with Marvin as he talks him into surrendering.
Elsewhere, Coughlin reports back to Chin (Daniel Dae Kim) that he cannot find anything on Sara’s aunt and uncle but cannot be sure they’re not involved with the drug cartel. Chin won’t stop digging until he can be sure as there is only 2 weeks until they take over custody of Sara. It seems Chin would love to keep Sara but being apart of the 5-0 is dangerous, would it really be the best move? Further, the mention of Sara’s aunt and uncle possibly engaging in criminal activity can’t be random passing reference, something has to come into fruition.
