In the closing moments of episode 3, it looked like Alicia Brown (Claire Forlani) and Steve McGarrett (Alex O’Loughlin) had found the chess piece killer in therapist Dr. Madison Gray (Elizabeth Röhm).

After speaking with her, Brown is convinced she is the killer mastermind, but Steve knows they have no evidence and so is hesitant to go after her. Alicia doesn’t listen to Steve and breaks into Madison’s house. She finds a chess board with the same chess pieces used in the murders, but of course things go wrong, her and Steve end up captive and bleeding.

Alicia Brown (Claire Forlani) and Steve McGarrett (Alex O’Loughlin) held captive by Madison Gray.

While Brown and Madison play mind games, we learn Brown’s daughter joined the FBI just like her, but she ended up being killed by a serial killer she was trying to catch. This explains why she ended up in early retirement.

Things turn from bad to worse when Madison Gray hands Brown and Steve over to two of the FBI‘s Most Wanted, notorious serial killers Donald and Mallory Witten (Danny Michael Mann & Lauren Letherer). They dump them in hole, where as the tide comes in, the hole fills up. The killers just patiently wait for them to drown.

Steve tries to keep Alicia calm, but the rapid water proves too much for her at one point as Steve has to revive her. Steve eventually finds a way out, meanwhile, Chin (Daniel Dae Kim) and Kono (Grace Park) arrive just in time to take out the serial killer duo.

However, Dr. Madison Gray is already gone, but I doubt this will be the last we see of her.

Elsewhere, when Jerry (Jorge Garcia) finds link between Sara’s aunt and uncle and a drug dealer, Chin turns to Coughlin (Ingo Rademacher) for help.

I really enjoyed this episode, it was a bit different to other episodes as it was a little slower at times, not that this was a bad thing. It was more psychological and less action, but it seemed to work as it was more character-centric as we learnt Alicia’s motivations.

One thing that really made this episode stand out was the chemistry between Steve and Alicia, there certainly seemed to be a spark between them, could this turn into anything more? Whether or not it does, Claire Forlani was a great addition to the show in the few episodes she appeared, and will hopefully return as Alicia Brown at some point to help the team out on another case, or when/if Madison Gray returns.

What was your favourite moment from the episode? Do you think there is potential for a Steve and Alicia romance? Do you think this is the last we will see of Dr. Madison Gray? Comment and let us know.
