Twin Peaks Premiere Date Has Been Revealed
It’s time to get yourself reacquainted with Twin Peaks, with the announcement of the highly anticipated return of the infamous TV series. Your journey back to the red room will begin on Sunday, May 21, at 9/8c, which will kick off with a two-hour premiere!
The revival will consist of 18 hours, Showtime president and CEO David Nevins announced Monday afternoon at the Television Critics Association winter press tour. David Lynch, who directed the entire thing, later confirmed that it would air as 18 episodes. Nevins also said that immediately following the two-hour opener, Episode 3 and 4 will be available On Demand and via Showtime’s streaming platform.
“We’ve seen the whole thing, and the version of Twin Peaks you’re going to see is the pure heroin version of David Lynch,” Nevins said. “I’m very excited to put that out.”
Nevin would only give little breadcrumbs about the storyline, only revealing that it’s “about Agent Cooper’s odyssey back to Twin Peaks,” and that an “emotional” story grounds the 18-hour run. We may be waiting forever to feast our eyes on a trailer, with Nevins indicating that a themed series of teasers (like American Horror Story ) could unwind before the shows May premiere. When discussing the impact Twin Peaks could have now, in the age of social-media, Nevins also added that “It rewards close watching, make sure you’re paying attention to details and putting things together over time.” When asked if there will be more Twin Peaks beyond the 18 hours, Nevins said: “It’s designed to be a closed-ended, one-time event.”
Twin Peaks aired on ABC from 1990 to 1991; it followed FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper, who Kyle McLachlan will once again reprise the role, Cooper is brought in to investigate the mysterious murder of a homecoming queen in the sleepy town of Twin Peaks. The revival cast list features the return of many actors from the original series including Sherilyn Fenn, Mädchen Amick, Sheryl Lee and David Duchovny. We will also see an enormous amount of new faces including, Laura Dern (Enlightened ), Michael Cera (Arrested Development ), Richard Chamberlain (The Thorn Birds’ ), Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails frontman ) and Jessica Szohr (Gossip Girl ).
I cannot even begin to tell you how excited I am for the new instalment of Twin Peaks; it was my favourite show of the 90’s and to this day, is still one of my favourite shows of all time. The time has come for you to get reacquainted with the curious world of Twin Peaks!
