The New ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming Trailer’ Has Been Released

Following yesterday’s seven-second teaser, Marvel and Sony have officially released the trailer for Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Starring Tom Holland (The Impossible, In the Heart of the Sea, The Lost City of Z) as the web-slinger, the movie follows on from the events of Captain America: Civil War as Peter Parker struggles to find himself somewhere between being a superhero and being a teenager.

Post-Civil War, life is looking good for Peter – he’s got the stunning new suit and gadgets (a gift from his new mentor Tony Stark a.k.a. Iron Man), he’s got a great best friend and he’s got crushes – high school stuff.

However, when scorned genius Adrian Toomes decides he’s had enough of the rich and elite having their rule over the city with little care for the underprivileged, he fights dirty – and becomes The Vulture.

In his attempt to stop him, despite warning, Peter is way out of his depth and may have ended up making the situation much worse – nearly resulting in casualties, only avoided due to Stark’s intervention. Stark, seeing how Peter responded to danger, immediately takes the suit from him – telling him “if you’re nothing without this suit, then you shouldn’t have it.”

Peter Parker and Tony Stark

By all accounts, this looks like a coming of age adventure for the web-slinger – witnessing as he goes from being reliant on the high-tech suit provided by Tony Stark in Captain America: Civil War and a little bit cocky about his new status and superfriends, to someone forced to go back to basics to prove himself as a hero in attitude, not just appearance.

The new trailer looks absolutely amazing – showing off Bokeem Woodbine’s (Saving Grace, Southland, Fargo) Shocker, extraordinary action scenes, and even a glorious Captain America cameo. The movie looks like it’s going to be incredibly fun and wild, with emotional twists and turns – exactly what the world needs from a Spider-Man movie. The trailer does show off a lot, including what seems to be the main plot – but Marvel have always been good at surprising their fans and often deceiving them with the way the trailer is cut together.

Further cast members include Robert Downey Jr. (Zodiac, Charlie Bartlett, The Judge) reprising his role as Tony Stark, Jon Favreau (Something’s Gotta Give, The Break-Up, Star Wars: The Clone Wars) reprising his role as Happy Hogan, Michael Keaton (Batman, Beetlejuice, Birdman) as The Vulture, Michael Chernus (The Bourne Legacy, Captain Phillips, Orange Is the New Black), Donald Glover (Community, The Martian, Atlanta), Marisa Tomei (Anger Management, Loitering with Intent, Crazy, Stupid, Love.), and plenty more. Spider-Man: Homecoming is scheduled for release on 7th July 2017.
