The Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries Movie Officially Has a Script and Title!
The Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries movie officially has a script and title! Every Cloud Production, the studio behind this brilliantly executed Australian TV show, recently shared a photo on Facebook of the TV series stars Essie Davis (Phryne) and Nathan Page (Jack) holding the script with the caption:
UPDATE: Phryne and Jack reunited again! Essie Davis and Nathan Page were in Melbourne recently to talk to the Every Cloud Productions team about the latest Miss Fisher installment; feature film Miss Fisher & The Crypt of Tears. They were both given advanced copies of the film script as we continue to develop and pursue financing.
Miss Fisher feature movie will be called Miss Fisher and the Crypt of Tears. For those that have not had the pleasure of watching Miss Fisher, the series is an Australian period drama about a female sleuth full of sass and smarts who sashays through the back lanes and jazz clubs of late 1920s Melbourne, fighting injustice with her pearl-handled pistol and her dagger sharp wit.
Miss Fisher has quickly become a cult hit around the world, due to Netflix. It has been some time since we have had any new episodes which are due to Essie Davis having relocated to London with her husband Justin Kurzel following the end of the third season of the show.
According to the Herald Sun, Miss Fisher’s creators Deb Cox and Fiona Eagger have plans for a movie trilogy like Indiana Jones, starring our beloved Phryne Fisher. The movie would see Miss Fisher take cases around the world and would film in London and we also have been given a possible timeline, Davis and Eagger headed to Los Angeles in January to look for financial backers, with the movie seeking to begin filming in the second half of 2017 for a 2018 release.
Last year Eagger and Cox talked about the film’s first plot saying
We want it to be like the Indiana Jones movies. We might not have Steven Spielberg’s budget but that is what [Phryne Fisher] is — an action hero. She got to be able to fly the world … It could be Miss Fisher and the Crypt of Tears so she has to go to Arabia. We’d love to go to India. We have fun thinking about the destinations.
As if the movie news wasn’t enough we also have news about a prequel TV Show. Eagger and Cox’s Miss Fisher plans don’t end with a film trilogy. The creators also have a prequel TV spin-off in mind focused on a younger version of Phryne on some of her first mysteries. The spin-off has a tentative title: Miss Fisher’s First Murder Mysteries, and it already has author Kerry Greenwood’s blessing. Eagger gives us a rough synopsis of the show
That will be a younger Phryne Fisher. She is 18, her family has come into money, and she’s in the UK at a finishing school. She gets word that her best friend from Melbourne is charged of murder and is heading for the gallows. She escapes [from the finishing school] and comes back [to Australia] to save her friend … On the run is where she learns a lot of her [sleuthing] skills.
I am ecstatic at this news, Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries is one of Australia’s gems, and if you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend you drop everything you’re doing and watch it! Last year I was fortunate enough to go to The Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries Costume Exhibition in Brisbane, Australia which you can read about here.
