The Final Four Episodes of Lucifer Season Two Will Now Kick Off Season Three in Fall

Lucifer was originally renewed for Season two and received a “back nine” order, which brought its episode total to 22, but the series had only planned on an 18 episode arc.

“We designed this season to be an 18 episode arc because we originally were going to be 18 episodes. But then we got four more! Surprise!,” Lucifer executive producer Joe Henderson wrote on Twitter. “So we decided to create four episodes that let us play around a bit. Dig deeper into the character stories, play with the format a bit, etc.”

However, Fox has now taken the last four episodes from season two and will add them to the perdition of Lucifer Season three. The extra four episodes are being called “standalone” character studies. The four episodes will air at the start of season three, which is due to air next fall. The means Lucifer season two will now end on May 29 instead of late June. Lucifer season two returns to our screens on the 1st May. Five of the nine remaining original episodes will air before the season finale on May 29.

The four episodes “stand on their own, but also pick up plots we’ve introduced and bringing in new stuff we’ll play with season 3” Hendeson tweeted.

Lucifer season three is ordered for 22 episodes, and it comes at no surprise that Lucifer is outperforming Gotham, with Lucifer averaging 3.8 million viewers, which is roughly 300,000 more than Gotham. As a Lucifan myself, it doesn’t’ surprise me at all. The show’s writers are fantastic, they can incorporate dark humour, while still having an element of drama. All the actors and actresses are talented, and they make the show come to life. Each character brings their own bit of sass to the table, and it is different.

If you have not see Lucifer, do yourself a favour and just watch one episode and I can guarantee you won’t be able to stop at one.
