Terminator 2 3D Set For August Release

T2: Judgement Day is by far the most financially and critically successful film of the Terminator franchise. So it makes sense that director James Cameron would want to re-release the movie in theatres to the public, only this time it will be in 3D which is Cameron’s forte. Just watch Avatar for proof. Cameron has been wanting to do this since the release of Avatar back in 2009.

The Terminator 2 Facebook page released the new poster for the re-release August 29th, 2016. August 29th, 1997 is the date that Skynet becomes self-aware.

Terminator 2 was obviously initially made without the thought of 3D. There are certainly some scenes that could benefit from the 3D treatment, though. At the time (1991) T2 pushed what you could do with visual effects and action in action films.

James Cameron will be working with Studio Canal and the China-based DMG Entertainment to construct T2 with an extra dimension. DMG CEO, Dan Mintz believes that this release will set a new standard for future generations saying:

“We are committed to making the conversion the highest quality in order to live up to the expectations of the film’s many fans around the world.”

Nostalgia is very powerful, and now a new generation has a chance to experience the movie on the big screen. This should appease fans of the franchise as well while the sequel to Terminator: Genisys (that saw the return of Arnold Schwarzenegger to the franchise) is currently on hold.

You can enjoy T2 again or for the first time on the big screen in 3D on August 25th, 2017.
