Snowpiercer TV Series Lands a ‘Hamilton’ Star & the Director of ‘Doctor Strange’

The Big News

TNT has slowly been upping their programming game. Due to their hunt for more viewers, the Snowpiercer TV series may be the most noteworthy recent addition.

The series will be based on the cult movie hit, Snowpiercer. It was announced today that breakout Hamilton star, Daveed Diggs has joined the cast in a starring role. Scott Derrickson, the director of Dr. Strange will direct the pilot episode.

The Movie

For those who are not familiar with the Snowpiercer movie, it’s set in the future after the world has become a “frozen wasteland“. The only humans left are stuck on a train called Snowpiercer that forever circles the globe. On the train, the survivors are divided into two classes. The privileged upper-class lives in luxury at the front. Meanwhile, the lower class lives in squalor at the rear.

Things get increasingly worse for those at the back as the train travels along. As a result, the eternal struggle between the “haves” and the “have-nots” rears its ugly head.

The movie has become a sleeper hit and stars some big names including Chris Evans, Tilda Swinton, and Ed Harris. The film’s co-stars include Sir John Hurt, Jamie Bell, Octavia Spencer, and Ewen Bremner. With names like that attached to a film, I’m surprised the movie didn’t receive the full Hollywood marketing treatment.

I’m extremely glad it didn’t.

Because I kept hearing a ton of good things about the movie from underground sites, I decided to check it out for myself. I was immediately hooked and pleasantly surprised overall. The movie was directed well by Bong Joon ho, had great script and plot, and the dialogue wasn’t cheesy or overthought.

Due to the movie’s strength, it’s become an excellent example of why Chris Evans will have a career after Captain America. It’s also become one of the biggest hits in Korean movie history.

The Snowpiercer TV Series

Diggs will star as Layton Well, a captive and drug addict at the back of the train who will become a reluctant participant in the class struggles to come.

While starring in the Snowpiercer TV series, Diggs will also be writing original music for the ABC fall show, The Mayor.

Scott Derrickson to direct pilot episode of Snowpiercer TV series

Scott Derrickson

Another big addition to the Snowpiercer TV series is Scott Derrickson who will direct the premiere episode. Derrickson is fresh off his big commercial success as the director of the November 2016 movie Dr. Strange. Derrickson is also well known for his horror flicks, The Exorcism of Emily Rose, Sinister, and Deliver Us From Evil.

Seems like we all need to be on the lookout for this one in 2018. I suggest you go watch the movie if you haven’t seen it yet. Then join me, Deven B. as we follow the updates.
