Marvel Releases New ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ Trailer
Marvel comics has released a stunning new trailer for the highly anticipated Spider-Man: Homecoming.
The new trailer gives us a better look at the high-tech abilities of the suit that Tony Stark has provided to his young protégé, Peter Parker/Spider-Man. This includes the fact it has some kind of A.I. technology (like Stark’s F.R.I.D.A.Y. or the former J.A.R.V.I.S.), which also lets him know how many web-shooter combinations he can execute in his current surroundings.
Fans also see more of the dangerous world Peter is putting himself into and Tony’s reluctance to let him face these things. Peter tries to tell him about the “crazy dangerous” weapons, and Tony suggests that Peter leave this up to the more experienced heroes of New York. He asks, “why can’t you just be a friendly, neighbourhood Spider-Man?” However, Peter cannot stand by whilst people around him are being hurt and attacked – so he throws himself headfirst into the danger Stark tries to prevent him from.
At the time of Spider-Man’s creation all the way back in 1962, Peter Parker was the youngest vigilante/super-powered hero in the Marvel universe. Juggling school, relationships and making typical high school-esq mistakes were part of Peter Parker’s appeal, and watching him grow and develop and learn over the years is what made his character so special.
Now it looks like this reboot of the franchise is going to really emphasise Peter Parker’s age. Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy starring Tobey Maguire and Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man starring Andrew Garfield featured Peter Parker in school, but they never seemed to really focus on the fact that Peter Parker is a child.
Now it seems this franchise with Tom Holland ( How I Live Now, In the Heart of the Sea, Captain America: Civil War) as the web-slinger will create a coming-of-age tale of a high schooler who gets these incredible abilities, but is also a teenager who has to worry about if he can save the world and make his Spanish quiz.
