John Boyega Suits Up for ‘Pacific Rim: Uprising’
John Boyega (Star Wars: The Force Awakens, 24: Live Another Day, Attack the Block) has been spotted on set in his sleek new Jaeger pilot suit as he films for Pacific Rim: Uprising.
Pacific Rim: Uprising is the highly anticipated sequel to Guillermo Del Toro’s Pacific Rim. The original movie, starring Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy, Green Street, Crimson Peak), Rinko Kikuchi (Babil, 47 Ronin, Assault Girls) and Idris Elba (Luther, Bastille Day, The Jungle Book) told the story of a world fighting back against an alien threat coming from the bottom of the Pacific Ocean, using giant robots called Jaegers designed to fight and eliminate the aliens known as Kaiju.
Whilst plot details on the sequel are scarce, we do know that Boyega will be starring son of Idris Elba’s character, Stacker Pentacost. From Stacker’s original story as head of the Jaeger programme, and a military precision man, we can only assume his son Jake Pentacost will be of similar character – perhaps trying to follow in his fathers legacy of leading humanity in the fight against their extinction?
The last movie seemed to end on the note that the Kaiju had been wiped out entirely, with the help of a sacrifice from Stacker Pentacost. However, going by the title and the return of the Jaeger programme, it looks like there is still plenty more to do in the fight against the aliens from the rift.
Other actors cast in the monster-vs-mecha sequel include Adria Arjona (Emerald City, Wedding in New York, Person of Interest), Scott Eastwood (Gran Torino, Fury, Suicide Squad) and Tian Jing (Special ID, The Warring States, Police Story: Lockdown). Steven S. DeKnight, who has worked on Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Daredevil and Dollhouse will be directing the film.
Pacific Rim: Uprising, is set for release February 23rd, 2018.
