First Look: Alicia Vikander as Laura Croft!
Since breaking out in 2014’s Ex Machina, Vikander has been seen in some major movies and it doesn’t look like she’s showing any signs of slowing up. Here’s a quick list of her credits since then:
and here’s the five we expect in the near future:
Vikander’s version of the popular video game character will be heavily influenced by the game’s reboot. Vikander will play a younger and less experienced Croft who ends up stranded on an island near Japan as she looks for her father.
The film’s director, Roar Uthaug (best name for a director EVER!) says the film
“…drew a lot of inspiration and reference from the game and the entire Tomb Raider canon to develop our world, and I believe fans will recognize that. At the same time, this is a completely different theatrical approach to Lara Croft that will offer something new in the origin and development of the character. It’s a story that not only highlights her incredible physical accomplishments but delves deeper into her humanity.”
Read about Vikander’s excitement of winning this role here. Vikander previously won an Oscar for her role in The Danish Girl and was expected to follow that role with the more highbrow performances actresses normally take after winning the prestigious award.
Not so for Vikander. We think that’s pretty cool and can’t wait to see what she and the rest of the movie’s cast bring to the reboot.
Tomb Raider is scheduled for cinematic release on March 16, 2018 so mark your calendars!
