With Logan less than two months away from hitting theatres and the inevitable second trailer coming presumably very soon Director James Mangold has released new images from the film. James shared these via his Twitter account and showcased Logan (Hugh Jackman), Professor Xavier (Patrick Stewart) and X-23 (Dafne Keen ). (comicbookmoive.com)
Logan will have its world premiere next month at the Berlin International Film Festival. There was a very positive reaction to a 40-minute screening recently by fans and critics. While this is encouraging it’s only the first 40 minutes and it doesn’t take much for a movie to go wrong especially one like Logan.
I personally want this film to do well. First off this is Hugh Jackman’s last performance as Wolverine. It saddens me but he has been playing the role over the past 17 years or so and Logan ages significantly slower than the average person, so I totally understand it. Secondly, I am a huge Wolverine fan. It started with the 90’s X-Men cartoon show and comic books. I have always had mixed feelings about the various movies Wolverine has been in. Some are good (X-Men and X2) and some just horrible (X3 and X-Men Origins: Wolverine). I try hard to forget Origins It was poorly written, and the changes to his origin range from odd to downright stupid. The Wolverine was a huge improvement over Origins all be it not perfect but still watchable and entertaining.
Logan is loosely based off the Marvel comic Old Man Logan which was written by Mark Millar and drawn by Steve McNiven. It will be interesting to see how much of the source material they use as it’s one of my favourite Wolverine comics. X-23 in the comics is the clone daughter of Logan. We will see if Fox changes that in the movie. I also predict X-23 will take up the mantel as Wolverine as she currently has for over a year in the comics.
Logan hits theatres March 3rd, 2017 and will be the first R-rated Wolverine movie which if you know anything about the comics is essential to tell many of his stories.
