Confirmed Casting for ‘New Mutants: Growing Pains’
We look at Anya Taylor-Joy and Maisie Williams confirmed to play Magik and Wolfsbane.
Alright, X-Men fans let’s address some more rumors! Earlier this week, with the help of Rhett Reese, we have debunked the rumors for Deadpool 2 having a cameo to introduce 3 X-Force members, which you can check out HERE!
Today, we’ll be confirming past rumors for Josh Boone‘s ‘New Mutants‘ for casting Anya Taylor-Joy and Maisie Williams. Now we’ve already thrown these two names a couple of times as they were the favorites for New Mutants seeing how Anya was always a fan of the New Mutants and Maisie was a favorite amongst the studio. It’s finally confirmed that the two will be starring in the X-Men film, which is due to hit theaters April 13, 2018.
Anya will be playing Magik and Maisie will be taking the role of Wolfsbane, as we have previously reported. Phil Noto, notable comic book artist, did treat us to a little preview of an art piece he’s done showing Anya as Magik and Maisie as Wolfsbane.

We’ve also learned that the title for the film will be New Mutants: Growing pains. Which is a tribute to the young mutants learning how to control their powers. Josh Boone still has some casting to do and bringing in his old friend Nat Wolff might be a move he is considering to play the role of Cannonball.
One actor, I’m hoping they’ll cast to bring some familiarity with the franchise is Professor X, James McAvoy. Now McAvoy may not be a household name like Ryan Reynolds in Deadpool or Hugh Jackman in Logan, but McAvoy was a brilliant Professor X, and with his performance in ‘Split’ he may be on his way to being a big name actor in the Marvel Universe. Plus, is it possible to have a movie based on young mutants from Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters without Xavier himself right? So having some type of consistency is definitely a plus, especially considering the fact that 20th Century Fox is looking to give the X-Men franchise a reboot.

Not to say that Anya or Maisie aren’t big time actresses with their respectful work in Anya’s performance in Split- along with McAvoy- and Maisie’s amazing work in Game of Thrones as Arya Stark, but having McAvoy, Anya and Maisie run the point in this film could turn some heads. Boone is also actively searching for a Brazilian actor to play the Brazilian character, Sunspot which was previously played by Adan Canto in X-Men: Days of Future Past. So, all in all, I think it’s great to have Anya and Maisie confirmed for the film seeing that their names were being thrown around all summer.
