The Walking Dead
comicbook.com is reporting that the newest issue of The Walking Dead (#163) is Image Comics highest ordered comic in almost 20 years. Issue 163 is to be released February 1st and marks a new storyline for the series and it also marks Image Comics 25th Aniversary to the day. In honour of the occasion creator Robert Kirkman has set the price for issue 163 at 25 cents US. This may be a big reason why there are currently over 730,000 copies ordered, top that off with the fact that it’s a 40-page issue and you got yourself the best deal on a single comic book you are going to see all year.
The Defenders Relaunch
(nerdist.com) Marvel Announced that writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist David Marquez will be relaunching Defenders which will feature the same lineup as the upcoming Netflix series (Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, and Iron Fist)
“I wanted do a sprawling, Godfather-like epic at the street level of the Marvel Universe, Really putting our hooks down and creating a modern, elaborate organized crime story that is different than what has gone before, but builds on everything that has happened to these characters, as individuals or as a team, and putting them in the hardest battle for the street that anyone can imagine.” Bendis said. “You will get Jessica Jones looking out her window, street-level, and my return to Daredevil, which will be different than what I and Alex did before,” Bendis continued. “And Luke and Danny—characters that I have a strong affinity for. I spent most of the oughts being mocked for the love of Luke Cage. Now that Luke Cage is a household name, I just sit back in my chair and laugh and laugh”.
Defenders #1 will be released in June. Look for a preview of Defenders in May during Free Comic Book Day (1st Saturday in May)
(Spoilers For The Clone Conspiracy Ahead)
Ben Reilly Returns
Marvel also announced the return of Ben Reilly with his new ongoing series. Ben Reilly is also known as Scarlet Spider who made his first appearance in Web of Spider-Man #118 and is the clone of the original Spider-Man Peter Parker. This storyline was part of the clone saga back in the 90’s. Marvel revealed that the long-dead Spider-Man clone, Ben Reilly has resurfaced as the Jackal, the villain behind The Clone Conspiracy.
Ben Reilly: The Scarlet Spider #1 is scheduled to be released in April and will have Peter David Writing and Mark Bagley on art. Mark Bagley has also redesigned The Scarlet Spiders costume to match the times and judging by the cover alone has done a pretty good job. It will be interesting to see how this series does.
