Alien Movies Could Feature De-Aged Sigourney Weaver
Director Ridley Scott is considering having a digitally de-aged Sigourney Weaver (The Defenders) who will appear in it and reprise her groundbreaking role of Ellen Ripley via the magic of CGI de-aging. Alien: Covenant is the sequel to Scott’s film Prometheus, with plans for two more in the series following last one gradually driving into the back entrance of his original film Alien.
Digital de-aging has become a more frequent practice, with actors such as Robert Downey Jr. (Captain America: Civil War), Michael Douglas (Ant-Man) and Ian Holm ( The Hobbit trilogy) having all gotten a CGI makeover
“Scott will, it seems, be holding back some of his gruesome notions for future instalments: he is planning at least two more films before linking up with the original Alien. “Right now we’ve got a ten-page synopsis,” he reveals. “John Logan’s doing it. And we know where we’re going with it.” He is not ruling out the idea of using a digitally de-aged Sigourney Weaver to bring back Ripley: “You could do that,” he allows. And Logan promises “different mutations” of the Alien to come. – Empire (via avpgalaxy)
Director Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created, with ALIEN: COVENANT, a new chapter in his groundbreaking ALIEN franchise. The crew of the colony ship Covenant, bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, discovers what they think is an undiscovered paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the “synthetic” David, a survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition. When they uncover a threat beyond their imagination, they must attempt a harrowing escape.
The cast features Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston, Billy Crudup, Danny McBride, Demián Bichir, Carmen Ejogo, Amy Seimetz, Jussie Smollett, Callie Hernandez, Nathaniel Dean, Alexander England, and Benjamin Rigby.
Alien: Covenant opens in theatres on May 19, 2017.
